bicycle riding lessons #5

One of the best parts of bicycle riding, is when you’ve finally made it to the top of a hill and you get to go flying down. The longer the hill, the faster you go, and the bigger the rush. Its like its your reward for straining your gutts out as you climbed the hill. I loved it as a kid, and I love it today. The wind bouncing against your ears, the beads of sweat, helpless to hold on go flying off your face, feeling as though you could take off flying like a jet. Its nothing short of exhilarating. I don’t care how hard the hill has been, I’m grinning from ear to ear as I go flying down a hill, the little boy inside of me is giddy, yelling to the top of his lungs, “WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!” I feel invincible.

Life is hard, and being a Christ follower doesn’t always make life any easier. But there are so many adventures to experience in following Christ, so many thrills; like seeing a miracle before your very eyes, watching someone’s life turn on to Jesus, helping someone through a difficult time, being used as someone else’s answer to prayer.

If you’re riding along in your journey of faith, and you aren’t enjoying it, there’s a real problem. If you haven’t had a “weeeeeeeeeeeee” moment lately, then you need to ask God to bring back some joy, some fire, some passion. Remember you’re supposed to be a living testimony of what it means to follow Christ. If you’re living a miserable, boring humdrum life, no one is going to follow your example. I promise. Its time you got over yourself, let go and get giddy. Enjoy the journey. He never intended for it to be boring.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation Psalm 51:12
